Firm to insure dying teen on dream Disney trip
Hannah Jones, aged 13, from Marden, near Hereford, in the west of England, said she was “delighted” that a British company is to provide her with travel insurance for the trip next month.
Her family had been unable to find a company prepared to insure Hannah for her dream holiday.
Hannah, who suffered heart failure as a result of treatment for leukaemia, will fly to the US with her family and 39 other seriously ill or disabled children in a trip organised by the charity Caudwell Children.
The group will be accompanied by a team of paramedics and doctors.
Hannah said: “I’m delighted, overwhelmed. With only a few weeks to go before we leave I feared that I wasn’t going to be able to go on the holiday.
“I absolutely love Disney and watch all of the films; to be able to go and see them is a dream come true.
“The week away from our routine of doctors appointments and hospitals will be a wonderful distraction for me and my family.”
The insurance company, which wishes to remain anonymous, responded to a nationwide plea for help from the Jones family after attempts to secure medical insurance were refused.
Hannah’s plight hit the headlines last week when it emerged she had insisted to officials she did not want a transplant operation.
She was deemed mature enough by the Primary Care Trust in Herefordshire to take the decision not to have surgery.
