Six jailed for caging and abusing two young brothers

SIX people have been convicted of child abuse and sentenced to prison in a case where two young brothers were put in a cage and tortured by their mother.

Judge Pavel Goeth yesterday sentenced the mother to nine years in prison and her sister to 10 years. The others all received sentences of at least five years.

The prosecution said the brothers were kept in the cage for a year and tortured, with the intention to “break the boys’ will.”

One of the defendants, Barbora Skrlova, 34, made headlines when she was arrested earlier this year in Norway where she had been living disguised as a 13-year old boy. Skrlova is not related to the family.

Klara Mauerova, 31, a member of a sinister religious cult and her sister, Katerina led the sickening torture of her son Ondrej, 8, and his ten year-old brother Jakub.

A court in Brno in Czech Republic heard how relatives partially skinned Ondrej and forced him to eat his own flesh.

Jan Skrla, Barbora’s brother, and Hana Basova were sentenced to seven years in prison each, and Jan Turek was given a suspended sentence.

Klara and Katerina Mauerova are to be sent to a high security prison.

The boys, now aged nine and 11, were kept naked in cages for hours, beaten up, scratched with a fork, burnt with cigarettes and cut.

They were also forced to maltreat themselves as well as each other.
