A man is on life support in hospital after suffering severe head injuries in a suspected ‘one-punch’ attack in a Co Roscommon town.

Gardaí believe the tragic incident happened after a row in a pub spilled out onto the street.

It is thought one man punched another man forcing him to fall and hit his head off the ground, inflicting life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place at around 1am on New Year’s Day on Barrack St in Ballaghaderreen.
