Teacher denies cocaine-fuelled sex romps with student

A TEACHER accused of cocaine-fuelled sex romps with a student from his school yesterday admitted “betraying” his wife with the teenager.

Married father-of-two, Andrew Riley, 36, said flirting and talking to the student on the phone and via the internet made him “feel wanted”.

Although he twice stayed at hotels with the 17-year-old he denies any sexual activity took place, Preston Crown Court heard. Riley denies two counts of abuse of trust by having sexual activity with a person under 18 and one count of offering to supply cocaine, between May and July 2005.

Riley told the court he believed the student to be 18 and while he admitted it was “morally wrong” to have a relationship with her, he did not think it was a criminal offence.

He said he got closer to the teenager during domestic problems with his “nagging” wife of 10 years.

The court has heard the girl “worshipped” her teacher, and the pair shared sexual fantasies via internet, phone texts and explicit video messages, it is alleged.

The teenager, a blonde 17-year-old sixth former, had “self esteem” issues and would turn up at his office on a daily basis to talk about her problems to him.

Riley, who has two sons, aged seven and 11, said he would go home, drink wine and late at night exchange instant internet messages with the girl to cheer himself up with the teenager’s “happy, carefree voice”.

In further internet messages, they talked about lap-dancing and sexual fantasies, while discussing a planned visit to a hotel, the court heard.

Such messages he enjoyed, but it was “all fantasy”.

Riley, of Gleneagles Drive, Lancaster, “emphatically denies” having sex with the teenager or supplying her with cocaine.

The trial continues tomorrow.
