Queen remains ‘tight-lipped’ over South Park suicide

BUCKINGHAM PALACE remained typically tight-lipped yesterday after satirical US cartoon series ‘South Park’ aired an episode portraying Queen Elizabeth II killing herself after learning that a British plot to reconquer the United States had failed.

Queen remains ‘tight-lipped’ over South Park suicide

Barely a month after British actress Helen Mirren won the Best Actress Oscar for her sympathetic portrayal of the queen in the film of the same name, the queen received less than regal treatment in the popular cartoon series. In one scene from the episode, the queen is portrayed putting a gun in her mouth and pulling the trigger after receiving a call informing her that her plan to take over the United States had failed.

The queen then falls from her throne and lies on the palace floor in a pool of blood.

The notorious show follows the adventures of four boys from Colorado and this particular episode also features US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, in town for a big campaign rally, in an event overshadowed by a terrorist threat.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman yesterday declined to comment on the South Park portrayal, saying the palace “does not comment on artistic interpretations”.
