Father of boy Madonna adopted wants contact
Mr Yohane Banda said he did not want one-year-old David to return to Malawi, but wanted to hear how he was doing in his new home in Britain.
He had not spoken to Madonna since his son left the country with her last year, he told Malawi’s Daily Times newspaper.
“I don’t have her phone numbers and mailing addresses,” Mr Banda said.
“I want to find out how my son is, but I don’t know how I can do it.”
Mr Banda, 32, made the comments last week as the newspaper presented him with a cheque for £400 (€592) from Scottish nanny Christine Webster.
She had sent the donation, writing: “I do not have a lot of money but would you please assist in getting this money to Mr Banda to help him keep in contact with his son.”
Meanwhile, a Malawian high court has ruled that a coalition of human rights groups should monitor Madonna as she goes through the process of formally adopting David.
The rights groups have said that while they did not object to the star as a prospective parent, they were concerned the government cut legal corners to fast-track the adoption.
