Man disabled after eating kebab sues for €445,614
Jubeyar Chowdhury, 50, had a severe case of salmonella after eating at the A1 Kebabish restaurant in Manor Park, east London, and later developed a rare neurological complication.
Mr Chowdhury, who is now unable to work because of his illness, was among 160 people affected in the salmonella outbreak in February last year.
He has now issued a writ in the High Court against the restaurant’s owner, a Mr A Latif, and hopes to receive a payout of more than €445,614.
His lawyer, Liz Dux, from Russell Jones and Walker solicitors, said: “Mr Chowdhury has issued a writ and is suing Mr A Latif for more than £300,000.
“He developed a serious neurological complication following the contraction of salmonella which has left him with a permanent neurological disability and unable to work. He is very seriously disabled.”
She said: “Liability is not in dispute. The court process has been started and the case is pending. They have accepted he contracted salmonella from the restaurant. It was from a kebab.”
A1 Kebabish was closed down by environmental health officers after the salmonella outbreak which led to at least 60 people suffering food poisoning. Several were admitted to hospital.
