House of horrors to be demolished by governors
A gaping hole opens up where the white plastic bath once sat, where Holly was said by her killer to have drowned.
The walls which once rang to the sound of Jessica’s terrified screams are now stripped of their tiles inside the gutted shell of 5 College Close, the first House of Horrors of the 21st century.
Huntley alone knows exactly how events unfolded after the two 10-year-olds crossed its threshold on Sunday, August 4, last year.
What is certain is that they went inside as happy, carefree youngsters revelling in the freedoms in the long summer holidays and were carried out as lifeless bodies.
The horrific events inside 5 College Close shocked a nation, propelling the modest yellow-brick cottage into a category which has included 25 Cromwell Street and 10 Rillington Place.
The two-storey house has since been ripped apart by police as part of their search for evidence in the double child murder investigation. Soon it will be gone. School governors meet today to formalise the decision to demolish the house, said Soham Village College principal Howard Gilbert, so it cannot stand as a reminder.
