Lead in student’s murder

DETECTIVES in Britain investigating the murder of French student Amelie Delagrange have uncovered “key information” which could help catch the killer.

It is understood to have been provided by witnesses who were near Twickenham Green in south west London around the time Ms Delagrange was bludgeoned to death.

Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Murphy, speaking at the scene, said: “We have received some key information ... witnesses have come forward. There are some promising lines of inquiry but I’m not prepared to go further than that.”

Ms Delagrange, 22, who had been in England only two months, was killed as she took a short cut home across the green just after 10pm last Thursday.

Police have released CCTV footage of her a minute’s walk from the green at 9.59pm.

Mr Murphy has not ruled out the possibility of a serial attacker and is exploring potential links to four other incidents in the last two years, including the murder of 19-year-old gap year student Marsha McDonnell.

Four of the five victims were girls and all those four were blonde.

Police are also considering a motive of robbery - Ms Delagrange’s mobile phone and handbag are still missing.
