Ulrika’s alleged rapist named on TV show

A WOMAN has made a formal allegation she was attacked by the television presenter at the centre of the Ulrika Jonsson date rape mystery.

The alleged victim went into a police station to make the complaint. She was spoken to by detectives and they are now investigating her claim.

The woman, 30, is understood to have come forward after seeing Ms Jonsson talking about the allegation on television.

Ms Jonsson has claimed the presenter, who she refused to identify, attacked her in a hotel room in 1988 when she was a young TV weather girl. She has not made any complaint to police.

The second woman went to a police station in London three days ago.

A City of London Police spokesman said: "A woman came in and made an allegation of rape. Obviously, we are investigating."

The allegation means the presenter may now be questioned by police.

The woman claims the alleged attack took place several years ago, the Daily Express reported.

Earlier yesterday the presenter, who has already been identified on the internet in connection with the Ulrika Jonsson allegations, was inadvertently named during a live TV show.

His name was mentioned by Matthew Wright during his show The Wright Stuff on Five, formerly Channel 5. Wright swiftly said it had been a slip of the tongue and he had not meant to mention the man's name.

A spokeswoman for Five said later: "It was never the intention of The Wright Stuff to name anyone in connection with this story."

The presenter is said to have denied Jonsson's claims she was raped, telling a friend the pair had consensual sex.

Jonsson's allegations appear in her new autobiography Honest, in which she claims the rape occurred in a hotel room as she prepared to go to the cinema with the man.

She also spoke about it during a Channel 4 documentary last week.

Jonsson has repeatedly refused to name the man or make a formal complaint, although police have signalled they would investigate if she did.

Two other women have approached publicist Max Clifford with complaints which he said were "of a similar nature" to those made by Jonsson. These allegations do not include rape. "I have had calls from two people who are coming to see me, who made allegations about the same person," he said.

Clifford stressed he had no evidence the claims of the women who approached him were true. "It could turn out to be absolutely nothing," he said.

Wright mentioned the man's name during an item entitled "trial by media" in which he discussed the Ulrika allegations with journalist and broadcaster Vivienne Parry.

Parry was discussing two other women who have approached publicist Max Clifford about encounters with the same man.

She said: "This really is big trial by media. It sort of worries me that ... these two women who have now come forward, they haven't gone to the police, where have they gone? Max Clifford. So I mean ..."

Wright let slip the name when he interjected to point out that of the three women who have made allegations, one of them had got a book out and the other two were "working with one of the highest profile publicists around".

The camera then focussed on Parry who was staring at Wright in stunned silence.

Wright later invited viewers to ring in with their comments on whether they thought the alleged attacker could have a fair trial in light of the publicity this time careful not to name him.

He said: "We are going to ask what sort of chance you think Ulrika's alleged rapist has for a fair trial if and when he is named."

Ms Jonsson's lawyers Schillings issued a statement on her behalf.

It said: "Miss Jonsson has never named her assailant nor has she ever had any intention of doing so. Furthermore, she has never provided details from which he could be identified.

"That remains her position. There will be no further comment."

Meanwhile, Jonsson has been granted an injunction against her former lover Stan Collymore after reports he has been offering a sex video of her for sale.

The ex-soccer star has been banned from selling video footage, stills or photos which show Ms Jonsson naked or engaging in sexual activity.
