Galloway’s eviction means it’s time to get back to work

GEORGE GALLOWAY last night became the fourth person to be evicted from the celebrity Big Brother house.

Galloway’s eviction means it’s time to get back to work

The Respect MP attracted 64.7% of public vote after being nominated alongside fake celebrity Chantelle Houghton and US basketball star Dennis Rodman.

Galloway, 51, was odds-on favourite to be the next celebrity to be kicked out of the reality show.

He showed little emotion as his eviction was announced live by presenter Davina McCall. He hugged, kissed and shook hands with the other housemates before making for the door.

As he emerged from the house, a smiling Galloway was met with boos and cheers from the crowd.

The inhabitants of the Big Brother house have spent the past three weeks tested with daily bickering, boozing and betrayal.

But as George Galloway finally stepped out of the goldfish bowl tonight, he faced one more challenge - catching up on what he has missed in the real world.

The Bethnal Green and Bow MP said it was an easy decision to enter the house despite being cut off from his family, colleagues and the outside world.

He said the alternative platform would reach millions of disaffected voters and help him voice arguments against war in Iraq and raise money for poor Palestinians.

But within days of his surprise appearance, critics complained that the elected parliamentarian was missing matters of importance to his constituents.

He will be interested to learn other MPs have voiced their concerns about the impact of the controversial new Crossrail links for London.

The latest House of Commons debate saw Members discuss funding, extending one route to Reading and the possibility of a station at Woolwich.

And he may be pleased to see the stir some early day motions caused when they appeared with his signature on them, despite his being locked in the house.

Constituency staff later explained Galloway had signed more than 60 documents he supported shortly after New Year.

Away from Government business, Galloway will probably be at a loss if anyone asks him about the northern bottle-nosed whale, a topic millions have learned a lot about in the past week.
