In a statement read at a police press conference, Jane’s mother Liz, sister Sue and partner Malcolm Sentance, aged 34, appealed for anyone sheltering the killer to give him up.

Music teacher Jane, aged 31, of Shaftesbury Road, Brighton, went missing on March 14.

Her strangled body was found burning on a nature reserve near Pulborough, West Sussex, on Saturday evening.

Detectives said they were closer to the killer but admitted there were no suspects in the case.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Dennis said DNA samples were being taken from Jane’s close friends and family, which could include partner Malcolm.

Mr Dennis said dozens of officers were now following up more than 100 calls from members of the public to the murder incident room in Brighton, where Jane taught at Uplands School.
