JR to be shot again
The voluptuous Catherine Zeta-Jones is to play the wholesome Pamela Ewing while her Ocean’s Twelve co-star Brad Pitt is also expected to join her in the movie, which begins filming later this year.
Screenwriter Robert Harling says he has been working for 18 months on the Dallas script which features the original characters from the pilot of the 1978-1991 series.
“It’s reinventing the Ewing family as if they existed now in 2006 when the movie comes out. The characters are outrageous - one of the things I told the studio is ‘I’d like to do Dallas on acid’.”
Steve Kanaly: Now aged 59, he was the black sheep of the Ewing family being Jock’s illegitimate son.
He took part in the Dallas Reunion: Return to Southfork shown last year.
He currently spends most of his time painting and running an orange and avocado farm in California with his wife Brent.
He suffered a heart attack nine years ago and now walks five miles every day.
Patrick Duffy: Bobby came back from the dead to signal his wife Pam’s awakening from a series-long bad dream.
Mr Goody-Two-Shoes to his sly brother JR, Bobby was the acceptable, and, to many, attractive, face of the family. Previously star of the Man from Atlantis, he has struggled to find such a high TV profile again, with parts in a series of poor sitcoms. His parents were murdered in 1986.
Victoria Principal: As wife of the dashing Bobby, Pam was the envy of millions of women. Principal now looks a lot younger than her 58 years, thanks to second husband, plastic surgeon Harry Glassman.
In true Dallas fashion, she met him while going under the knife. She has made millions from her eponymous skincare range and lives in Beverly Hills.
Jim Davis: Tall, rangy character actor in many westerns and outdoor dramas. He is best known, however, for his role as the Ewing family patriarch.
His sworn enemy in the series was Digger Barnes, Jock’s original partner, who always maintained that Jock cheated him out his share of their fortune. Digger’s son Cliff swore to avenger his father by bringing down the Ewing family.
The actor died from a gastric ulcer in 1981.
Larry Hagman: The stetson-wearing JR was one of television’s most enduring villains. Unfaithful, sly, smooth-talking and quick-witted, 350 million people tuned in from around the world to find out who shot him. Upon his death, he wants his body to be ground up in a wood chipper and scattered in a field, where wheat is to be harvested and made into a cake for his friends and family to eat on the first anniversary of his death.
Linda Gray: Despite appearing in more than 40 TV shows and films, Gray will never be able to shake off the character of lip-quivering, drink-sodden Sue Ellen, whom she describes as “the original desperate housewife”.
Four years ago, she played Mrs Robinson in The Graduate in the West End, causing a stir with a brief naked appearance. She is currently guest-starring in US soap opera the Bold and the Beautiful.
Barbara Bel Geddes: Miss Ellie was the Ewing matriarch, and only she had any influence over JR. In 1984, she was forced to leave Dallas for a year to have heart surgery and Donna Reed took over her role. After returning, she stayed until the end in 1991, earning herself an Emmy on the way.
She retired from acting in 1991 and now lives in Maine, where she writes children’s books.
Charlene Tilton: Famously dubbed the “poison dwarf” by Terry Wogan, Tilton played the feisty, scheming blonde from the start of the show in 1978 until she was sacked in 1985, reportedly for putting on too much weight.
A campaign by fans, combined with a ratings slump, brought her back to the Southfork ranch in 1989.
She makes a living as a gossip columnist and also still acts.
