Man posed as agency boss to seduce young girls

A FATHER-OF-TWO who promised modelling work to young girls he met in internet chatrooms was sentenced to three years in jail on sex charges yesterday.

Man posed as agency boss to seduce young girls

Charles Monaghan, 38, of Fulwood, Lancashire, took girls to hotel rooms to engage in sexual activity after posing as the boss of a modelling agency, Burnley Crown Court heard.

He assaulted four girls, the youngest aged 13, and even met two of the girls’ mothers posing as the agency boss, the court was told.

Monaghan pleaded guilty to 11 counts of indecency with a child, including two charges of unlawful sex with a girl under the age of 16, and three counts of possession of indecent photographs.

The court heard Monaghan had meetings with the girls over a period of 10 months up until his arrest in January this year.

Mark Lamberty, prosecuting, said Monaghan booked hotel rooms and took the girls there on the pretence of discussing modelling work.

He would seem to fill out forms before engaging in sexual activity with the girls.

Monaghan has always denied coercion, which was accepted by the Crown, Mr Lamberty said.

The girls met Monaghan in pairs and performed sex acts on him and he on them, the court heard.

On occasions when sexual activity occurred, the girls were given cash sums.

He met one 14-year-old and her mother after using the nickname Dante in an internet chatroom, the court was told.

“It was agreed that the defendant could take (the girl) to a hotel room,” Mr Lamberty said.

On a later occasion, he had sex with the girl and gave her ÂŁ17.50 while another girl watched, the court heard.

A 13-year-old was indecently assaulted, leaving her feeling “horrible and disgusted”, Mr Lamberty went on.

Monaghan was arrested on January 22 after one of the girls’ mothers became concerned and contacted a social worker.

His computer was seized and was found to contain indecent images of children.

Peter Turner, defending, said that during the six months Monaghan had spent in custody he had recognised the “horror” of what he had done and was very sorry for his actions.
