UN special summit dwells on world organisation’s failings

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan told 160 world leaders at the UN summit they had little to be proud of.

US President George W Bush talked about the war on terror and warned of terrorism fed by anger and despair.

“The lesson is clear. There can be no safety in looking away or seeking the quiet life by ignoring the hardship and oppression of others. Either hope will spread or violence will spread, and we must take the side of hope”, he said.
