Heimir Hallgrimsson has a history of promoting graduates from training camps for full squads and this will be his first opportunity to do so as Ireland manager.
Here’s three members of his 21-man squad for the camp and friendly in Spain who will have designs on pressing for contention when the competitive action returns in September with the Uefa Nations League group featuring Austria, Israel and Kosovo.
Heimir’s potential bolters:
Deemed one of the hottest Irish prospects well before making his Cork City debut at 15, the attacker is only 18 and yet to make a senior appearance outside of Ireland. He’s shown plenty of promise to convince experienced managers of his readiness for the step-up.
Moylan was at a career crossroads as a free agent this time four years ago when Damien Duff called to offer a route back at Shelbourne. One season there earned a move to League One and the 24-year-old delivered 11 goals during Lincoln's League One title success. Equally comfortable as a striker or off the frontman.
Left-back is a problem position for Ireland, affording Adaramola a window to nail down the position on a long-term basis. Alex Murphy’s commitments for Newcastle United remove one competitor but the Palace defender has 15 Championship appearances from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday as a springboard in Spain.
