Denise O'Sullivan could be making a fresh beginning in the New Year with reports emerging that the Ireland international midfielder may be on the verge of joining Liverpool.
Cork native O'Sullivan has called the US home for nearly a decade after spending the past eight seasons with North Carolina in the NWSL. A fixture in the Courage set-up and club captain, O'Sullivan still has a year to run on the two-year contract extension she signed in 2024.
However, the 31-year-old could be ready to say goodbye to her Stateside career and come back across the Atlantic for an exciting opportunity in the WSL. According to a report in on Wednesday afternoon, O'Sullivan is on the verge of signing a deal to join Liverpool.
The Reds are in desperate need of reinforcements as they currently languish at the bottom of the WSL table, winless through the first 11 games of the campaign.
According to report, being closer to home and family is a key factor in O'Sullivan's upcoming decision. She has previously spent the NWSL's winter offseason on loan at Brighton in 2020 and, before that, with Australian clubs. Last year she was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United however she stayed put with North Carolina for another season. The Courage finished the 2025 campaign in ninth in the table, missing the playoffs by just one point.
If she does make the move to Liverpool she would be joining Ireland international teammate Leanne Kiernan at Anfield. The WSL season resumes on January 10 with Liverpool hosting London City Lionesses the following day.
