Shamrock Rovers defender Josh Honohan has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifier away to Armenia.

The defender, who was in the Ireland squad for their friendly matches against Senegal and Luxembourg back in June but didn't play any minutes, replaces Sammie Szmodics, who suffered a knock during the Boys in Green's 2-2 draw with Hungary on Saturday night.

The FAI posted on social media: "Josh Honohan has been called up to the squad to face Armenia.

"The Shamrock Rovers defender comes into the squad for the trip to Yerevan with Sammie Szmodics ruled out through injury.

"All other members of the squad set to travel this morning."
