Liverpool Women's assistant manager Amber Whiteley has joined the Republic of Ireland' WNT's coaching staff.

Whiteley will work under new Ireland head coach Carla Ward as they prepare for upcoming games in the UEFA Nations League.

She will work as an assistant coach in Ward’s support staff for matches against Greece, Slovenia and Türkiye, starting against the latter at Tallaght Stadium on Friday February 21.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Ireland women’s national team and to be part of Carla’s backroom staff,” she said.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity to work with an exciting group of players as they head into the UEFA Nations League.

"I am grateful to Liverpool for allowing me the opportunity to work with Ireland and to further my own development.”

Whiteley currently works as assistant manager to Matt Beard alongside Scott Rogers and will continue in her role with the Reds.

She also has previously served as interim manager for the Reds during the second half of the 2020-21 season and has previous international experience in a technical role with England U18s.

Ward has recruited a strong coaching staff with Whiteley joining Alan Mahon (Assistant Head Coach) and Emma Byrne (Goalkeeping Coach) in the set-up.

Mahon – a former English Premier League player who featured twice for the Ireland Men’s National Team – links up with the squad following a decade coaching with the Manchester City Women’s Team.

WNT record caps holder Byrne continues in the set-up as Goalkeeping Coach alongside Performance coach Ivi Casagrande who brings vast experience including working at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with Brazil.

Ward said: “I’m delighted to bring this group of talented professionals and brilliant people together to work with our players for what will be an exciting UEFA Nations League campaign that then leads us into the qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We will only succeed if we work together as a team, on and off the pitch, and everyone is already playing their part in preparing us for the opening games against Türkiye and Slovenia. We are ready to get going.”
