Departure leaves Ireland boss and FAI seeking Carla Ward's third assistant in a year

Gary Cronin has left his role as assistant to Carla Ward with the Ireland Women's squad after only six months

Appointed at the beginning of this year the former Longford Town and Bray Wanderers manager helped the Republic reach the 2027 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Play-Offs, where they will face Kazakhstan in Round 1 in October.

Cronin was involved in the set up for only six games, including back-to-back victories over Poland as well as a brilliant win over Netherlands in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Cronin said: “It was an honour to represent my country and work with such a talented and committed group of players and staff.

"As I move on to new opportunities, I’d like to wish the Ireland Women’s National Team the very best of luck in the upcoming qualifying play-offs – hopefully they can go on to clinch qualification to another World Cup.”

 The process to appoint a new assistant coach is already underway, the FAI said.
