Morgan Whittaker's stunning late goal helped Championship strugglers Plymouth pull off a major FA Cup upset with a 1-0 victory at Premier League Brentford.

Thomas Frank's side were not at the races at the Gtech Community Stadium prior to Whittaker's solo 82nd-minute effort which sent Argyle, who had new manager Miron Muslic watching from the stands, into the fourth round.

Plymouth's leaky backline, which has conceded 53 league goals this season, was not on display in west London as valiant defending from the likes of Brendan Galloway helped caretaker boss Kevin Nancekivell secure a memorable victory.

In another Championship-Premier League showdown, Brighton got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they beat Norwich 4-0 to cruise into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Seagulls had failed to win any of their previous eight games, with six ending in draws, but it was a different story at Carrow Road as they hit the goal trail against their Championship hosts.

Two goals towards the end of the first half from Georginio Rutter set the Premier League outfit on their way to a comfortable victory before Julio Enciso and substitute Solly March struck after the break to emphasise the gulf between the two sides.

Elsewhere Dango Ouattara scored twice as Bournemouth made light of their striker crisis with a thumping 5-1 FA Cup third-round win over West Brom.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola said this week he would have to dip into the January transfer market after forwards Evanilson and Enes Unal suffered serious injuries.

But on this evidence he might not need to after Ouattara bagged a brace while Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo and Daniel Jebbison were also on target.

Nottingham Forest made it seven wins in a row in all competitions for the first time in 19 years after beating managerless Luton 2-0 in the FA Cup.

Forest added to their six successive Premier League victories with a comfortable success over the Sky Bet Championship side thanks to goals from Ryan Yates and Ramon Sosa.

It meant they matched the run Colin Calderwood's side posted in October and November 2006 as the feelgood factor continues at the City Ground.

They easily put themselves in the hat for Sunday's fourth-round draw and they can now turn their attention to Tuesday's crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool, which could determine whether Forest really are in a title race.

Earlier on Saturday James Justin scored his second brace of the season to help

Leicester

progress through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a crushing 6-2 victory over

QPR

.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's side produced a professional display after the interval to give the Dutchman his second victory as boss, which could also inject some momentum into the Foxes' Premier League survival bid.

Justin put Leicester ahead in foggy conditions at the King Power Stadium before QPR equalised through Jonathan Varane's firecracker, but the hosts put breathing space between themselves and their Championship visitors with goals from Stephy Mavididi and Facundo Buonanotte.

On the stroke of half-time, Harry Winks lazily gifted Rayan Kolli a goal to cut the deficit to 3-2, yet that did not deflate Leicester as they showed their top-flight quality in the second 45.

Justin's second, Jamie Vardy's penalty on his 38th birthday and Wout Faes' beauty snapped a run of five consecutive defeats.

Meanwhile Demetri Mitchell celebrated his 28th birthday with a deadly double to help send Exeter into the fourth round of the FA Cup for the first time in 44 years with a 3-1 win over Oxford.

It was no more than the Grecians deserved against the much-changed Championship outfit, with Vincent Harper also on target for the League One side after Oxford had taken an early lead through Matt Phillips.

Zian Flemming's extra-time brace was enough to see Burnley past past stubborn hosts Reading as the Championship side pushed on for a 3-1 victory.
