Leicester's McAteer expected to commit future to Republic of Ireland

Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer is set to commit his international future to the Republic of Ireland. 

21-year-old McAteer - who was born in Northampton, England - is believed to be the winger that Ireland boss Stephen Kenny was referencing in his post-Gibraltar press conference. 

When speaking on the impact out-and-out wingers Chiedozie Ogbene and Mikey Johnston had on the team, Kenny referenced the work going on behind the scenes to secure the services of a wide player from the English Championship. 

McAteer - having broken into the side after Leicester's relegation to the second tier -  has notched five goals in nine games for the club he has been on the books of since he was only eight years old.

The winger - who can also play centrally - was on the scoresheet for Enzo Mareca's side in the EFL Cup defeat to Liverpool.
