A game 'best watched on the radio' - how Ireland v Georgia played out on social media
By Steve Neville
Ireland secured a vital three points after a 1-0 win against Georgia but the performance was far from impressive.
In typical fashion, social media did not hold back with what it thought about the game.
Here's how the internet saw the game.
Before kick off Eamon Dunphy was not impressed with the team selection.
Dunphy on the Irish team: "It's a shocking team, it's almost as if they put the names in a hat and pulled them out. I think it's terrible."

"Shocking team"; "I think it's terrible". Dunphy starting off the home campaign in positive style

Shane Duffy's choice of jersey number was questioned early too.
The opening 20 minutes didn't impress.
Any chance the dundalk lads can show Ireland how to pass? #IREGEO

We're making Georgia look world class, while we're looking like bottom of the class #IREGEO

Almost 40 minutes gone and there was a shock for fans.
Georgia hits the woodwork twice! Close call. #IREGEO #COYBIG

The first half finished with no added time and nobody very impressed.
Early days, of course, but Jaysus, this is dreadful shite, lads.

David summed it up nicely.
Need Wes. Why is Shane Duffy wearing #7? Very lucky not to be losing. Stop playing long balls #trapout #COYBIG #IREGEO

The second half started much the same until the 56th minute when Seamus Coleman somehow got a goal.

GOAL! How has it gone in!! Coleman #IREGEO (1-0 '56)

Seamus Coleman - persistence personified. #IREGEO
— Matthew Riordan (@Riordan_Matt) October 6, 2016
You'd be embarrassed to take that goal in fairness #IREGEO
— Derrick Lynch (@DLynchSport) October 6, 2016
That goal sums up Ireland. Ugly but persistent. #IREGEO

Two minutes later Ireland had scored again only to have it ruled off for offside.
Another goal for Ireland... but it's offside. Fantastic cross from Walters, but McClean is off as he nods home.

And moments later McClean went close again.
CLOSE! McClean's shot from distance is spilled/fumbled by Loria but the ball is recovered #IREGEO (1-0 '66)

But it wasn't long until the first half mood returned.
Jesus Christ this game is awful to sit through #IREGEO

Some found the fourth official more entertaining than the football.
Serious credit to the 4th official, covering the touchline, telling the management to get back #WorkRate #IREGEO

Back on the pitch, there was concern for Robbie Brady after he clashed heads going for a header.

Although people were amused at the amount of bandaging the Georgian defender got.

In stoppage McClean almost came close again as he rattled the crossbar with a header.
Hard luck, James McClean. Bullet of a header. Still 1-0 Ireland.
— Rob Smith (@robsmithireland) October 6, 2016
McClean will be wondering how he hasn't scored today. Played well.
— Seán Clancy (@SeanJohnGerard) October 6, 2016
Love the energy he brings #IREGEO
Mercifully, after seven minutes added time, the ref blew it up with Ireland securing a vital 1-0 win in a fashion that was anything but impressive.

Terrible game, just glad we got the 3 points that was the main thing #IREGEO
