Ex FAI head calls for 'full disclosure' of FIFA €5m

The former head of the FAI has called on the association to give "full disclosure" of the €5m it received from FIFA.

The payment came in the wake of the Thierry Henry handball which prevented Ireland from reaching the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

FIFA says the money was a loan, which would have been repaid had Ireland qualified for 2014 tournament in Brazil.

The story has made headlines around the world and there are now calls for an investigation.

Former FAI Chief Fran Rooney said it was time for the Association to be "transparent".

"It's a bad week to be answering these questions when we've a very important week ahead of us," he said. "We've the match against England on Sunday, and then a very important qualifier against Scotland.

"These are the issues we should be talking about. To be distracted by these off-the-field matters is not good, and it puts the FAI in bad light. That's being honest."
