Damien Duff reportedly hit with ‘bizarre’ double injury playing Down Under
It is being reported that Ireland’s Damien Duff’s season is over after he suffered a double injury during an A-League game on Saturday.
The 35-year-old has been playing with Melbourne City since June 2014 and started for them in the match against New Zealand side Wellington Phoenix.
The match report on the Melbourne City FC website said the side “lost Damien Duff to injury after the Irishman clashed heavily with Wellington's Roy Krishna” in the first 15 minutes of the game.
But Australian sports news site Fox Sports report that Duff suffered a ‘bizarre double injury’ that would put an end to his season and possibly his career.
According to their report, the Dubliner was taken off in Saturday’s match due to an injury to ankle ligaments. But further scans on Monday showed the player has also injured a tendon in his calf.
Duff won two Premier League titles with Chelsea and also played for Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Fulham in an 18 year career in England before moving to Australia. He also made 100 appearances for the Republic of Ireland before retring from international football in 2012.
