Brendan Rodgers insists sentiment would play no part in agreeing a new contract with captain Steven Gerrard.

The former England captain’s deal expires next summer and with reported interest from elsewhere – Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini recently voiced his admiration for the player and would not rule out a move – Rodgers is desperate to ensure a new deal is struck.
