Woodpecker havoc leads to recurring electricity outages in Clare town
The Great Spotted Woodpecker migrated over from the UK some 20 years ago, due to a growing population and lack of territories to nest.
Woodpeckers attacking electricity poles in a Co Clare town have caused 11 power cuts to weary householders in little over a year.
Householders living in Clogga, east of Sixmilebridge, experienced eight interruptions last year, which included two multi-day losses of supply in January and November. This was followed by three more outages in January this year.
