After yesterday’s 7-0 trouncing of Gibraltar, Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson was full of praise for the style of play manager Martin O’Neill has brought to the team.

Speaking after last night’s win, Gibson seemed to be a fan of the pressure game the manager has tried to bring to the national setup since his appointment last November.

“He likes to play football. He likes to get (us) up against people - to press people and, like we’ve seen tonight, score goals,” the Everton man said.

Gibson, who found it hard to hold down a regular slot under Giovanni Trapattoni, feels the current regime under O’Neill and Roy Keane is beneficial for him.

“Obviously, [it’s] a lot better because I’m getting a chance,” he said.

The focus now shifts to the huge Euro 2016 Qualifier clash with Germany in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday night.

Gibson, for his part, felt the ease of last night’s victory will be a positive thing for Ireland heading into such a vital Qualifier.

“I think it will give us confidence,” said the former Manchester United player. “Even though they weren’t the best team, it’s still good for us to score seven goals.”

“There was a few people who didn’t play [last night] who will be fresh for Tuesday night.”

“So we’ll be alright,” he added.
