PHOTO: Heart-warming moment as Luis Suarez has kick-around with young fan
By Peter O’ Dwyer
Now that Luis Suarez has taken a break from his on-field misdemeanours and focused on becoming the best striker in the Premier League, it appears there is no end to the feel good stories concerning him.
Not content with leading Liverpool to the summit of the Premier League and within five victories of claiming the title for the first time in 24 years, the Suarez PR machine has been ticking over nicely too.
Last December, the Uruguayan sat down with a young fan for a chat and a cup of tea that showcased a softer side than that often portrayed in the media.
As we brought you yesterday, Suarez’s strike partner Daniel Sturridge got in on the act for the same ‘Kop Kids’ initiative too.
Now, another heart-warming story has emerged of Suarez taking time out of his day to have a kick-around with a young fan with Down Syndrome.
Although dating back to the end of last season, the picture – posted to Reddit – has only emerged today.
Redditor benjibean gives this account of the incident:
“Bit more background due to interest. Initially he just ran over and took the ball off my cousin. My uncle (pictured) didn’t realise it was Suarez initially and thought it was just some annoying man.
“Luis was interacting with my cousin and letting him nutmeg him. Yes that’s right, my seven year old cousin has nut-megged Suarez,” he wrote.

He added that his uncle’s “mind was blown” by the incident and asked the star for a picture, a request Suarez was happy to grant.
“Now my cousin when he grows up has a picture with one of the best Liverpool players to grace Anfield,” he continues.
“So thanks Suarez. What a guy you are. This was around the time of the Evra/Ivanovic drama and made me believe he has true compassion.”
Despite his indefensible actions at times on the pitch and tendency to lose control, it seems that Suarez is a pretty decent guy off it.
