EA Sports Cup wrap
Michael Duffy hit a late double to give Derry City a 2-0 victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park as the 10-times record winners of the competition deservedly advanced to the semi-finals of the EA Sports Cup.
In a game Derry dominated for good spells, Duffy finally gave them their reward when breaking the deadlock on 82 minutes.
Michael Rafter won the ball to feed Barry McNamee who swept it wide left. Duffy did the rest, taking a good touch before drilling a left foot shot low and hard to the far corner of Greg Murray’s net.
Duffy then raced clear onto Rafter's through ball a minute into added time to calmly shoot home his second.
Holders Drogheda United cruised through as they beat hapless Cork City 3-0 at Hunky Dorys Park.
Jason Marks put Drogheda in front with a fine strike from distance on 24 minutes.
Cork were then left dumbfounded as Mick Cooke's side scored twice in the minutes before half-time. Further poor defending brought a second goal on 43 minutes.
A Derek Prendergast shot was blocked away, but fellow central defender Alan McNally followed up to head home the loose ball.
Ryan Brennan all but sealed Drogheda's semi-final berth in the final minute of the half when slotting home a penalty following a handball by Danny Murphy.
Carbon copy goals from Jeff Henderson and Gavin Peers gave Sligo Rovers a commanding half-time lead on their way to a 4-0 win over Limerick at Thomonnd Park.
Henderson rose to head home a Kieran Djilali corner for the opener on 26 minutes.
Seven minutes from the interval, fellow central defender Peers was there this time to meet another Djilali corner and head past keeper Barry Ryan.
The game was over as a contest four minutes into the second half when a mistake by Ryan gifted the ball to Lee Lynch who set up Danny North to score Sligo's third goal. Substitute Evan McMillan added a fourth goal on 77 minutes.
