Sligo power on at the top in busy night of League of Ireland action

In-form Mark Quigley scored for the sixth match running as Sligo Rovers moved a big step closer to a first league title since 1977 with a 3-0 win over UCD at the Showgrounds.

Striker Quigley put Sligo ahead on 38mins from Romu Boco’s pass with Haitian international Pascal Millien doubling the lead two minutes later.

Benin international Boco added the third goal on 76mins as the win moves Sligo eight points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand on second-placed Drogheda United who lost 3-2 at Cork City.

Vinny Sullivan put Cork ahead after just five minutes at Turner's Cross, tapping home after Danny Murphy's free kick came back off a post.

Eric Foley levelled the scores four minutes before the break with a stunning long range free kick.

City defender Kevin Murray restored Cork’s lead early in the second half when forcing home from close in after Drgoheda failed to clear a free kick into their area.

Drogheda equalised again through a Declan O’Brien penalty, after Cork keeper Mark McNulty had been sent off for a foul on Gavin Brennan, on 66mins.

But Davin O’Neill’s 68th minute deflected shot then won it for Cork.

St. Patrick’s Athletic got back to winning ways with a vital 1-0 win at Dundalk.

Sean O’Connor got the only goal of the game 12 minutes into the second half with a good finish from Chris Forrester's pass.

Keith Ward scored a dramatic stoppage time penalty to salvage a point for Bohemians in a 2-2 draw with Shelboune in the Dublin derby at Dalymount.

Shels hit a post before a controversially awarded penalty, scored by Philly Hughes, gave them a 39th minute lead.

The action then came thick and fast late on. First Evan McMillan levelled for Bohs on 77mins.

Kevin Dawson then thought he’d won it for Shels when restoring their lead six minutes later before Ward sent Chris Bennion the wrong way from a 92nd minute spot kick.

Bray Wanderers and Derry City drew 0-0 at the Carlisle Grounds.
