Bohs and Cork in unfamiliar territory

Bohemians and Cork City fans are both more used to seeing their teams fighting title races rather than struggling near the bottom of the division, so tonight’s fixture has an unusual look to it (kick off: 7.45pm).

The Gypsies are fighting for their first goal and victory of the new campaign, while Cork City are also looking for their first win after five attempts.

Bohs winger Dwayne Wilson (family commitment) is out but flu victims Luke Byrne, Andy Mulligan and Keith Murray all return.

Cork must continue without injured trio Stephen Mulcahy, Kevin Murray and Neal Horgan while John Dunleavy (flu) and Tadhg Purcell (ankle) are doubts.

Bohs boss Aaron Callaghan said: “We are rebuilding, we are developing a team system and that takes time. We have had a run of games against the teams that are most likely to finish towards the top of the table.”

Cork City boss Tommy Dunne is certainly under no illusions ahead of the tie.

“Something has to give in this game; either Bohs will score or we will keep a clean sheet,” he said.

“I watched their game with Shamrock Rovers and I thought they did quite well. They have a young team, but they looked very solid at the back and it took a moment of magic to break the deadlock.”
