Twigg earns Shamrock Rovers a draw
Gary Twigg was once again the goalscoring hero for Shamrock Rovers with a stoppage time equaliser earning them a 1-1 draw at Cork City to put the champions top of the Premier Division table.
Before a bumper crowd of 4,300 at Turner's Cross, Cork took the lead on 62 minutes when defender Gavin Kavanagh, who'd scored an own goal in last week's defeat to Drogheda, beat Oscar Jansson with a speculative long range shot.
Rovers had left-back Conor Powell controversially sent off on 78 minutes for a foul on Gearoid Morrissey.
But, if anything, that spurred them on and Twigg came to the rescue when, with four gone in added time, he latched onto Ken Oman's header to shoot past Mark McNulty.
Philly Hughes scored for the third match running as Shelbourne ended Derry City's winning start to the season with a 1-0 victory at Tolka Park.
The only goal came two minutes before half-time when Hughes punished a misjudgment by Derry defender Stewart Greacen to score with a fierce shot. Derry had striker Rory Patterson sent off in stoppage time for a second booking.
Chris Bennion was the Monaghan United hero with a terrific penalty save to earn his side a 1-1 draw at St. Patrick's Athletic.
Conor Murphy gave Monaghan a third minute lead from a cross by Dannny McGuinness.
St. Pat's levelled through Dean Kelly on 14 minutes before the striker was shown a striaght red card for a lunging tackle on Stephen Maher four minutes before half-time.
Former St. Pat's man Bennion then earned Monaghan their point when parrying a penalty from Stephen O'Flynn late on while also bravely saving from Chris Forrester's follow-up.
Midfielder Lee Lynch scored the only goal as Sligo Rovers beat Bohemians 1-0 at the Showgroudns.
That came on 76 minutes when Lynch collected Joseph Ndo's pass to shoot beyond Craig Sexton. Three successive defeats leaves Bohemians bottom of the table.
Drogheda Untied had both Paul Crowley and Eric Foley sent off as they held out for a 0-0 draw with Dundalk in the Louth derby at Hunky Dorys Park.
Midfielder Crowley was first off on 69 minutes for a second yellow card offence following a foul on Michael Rafter.
Foley followed him eight minutes later when he tripped Stephen McDonnell to also receive a second booking form referee Rob Rogers.
Danny O'Connor scored two late goals as Bray Wanderers came from behind to beat UCD 3-2 at the UCD Bowl.
Veteran striker Jason Byrne fired Bray in front with his first goal of the season on the half hour.
But Graham Rusk scored two penalties, on 40 and 66 minutes, to put UCD in front.
Bray levelled seven minutes later when midfielder O'Connor lobbed College keeper Ger Barron.
O'Connor then won it for Bray on 83 minutes with a header.
