Gardner set for Sunderland switch

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was today poised to make a significant transfer breakthrough as he closed in on Birmingham midfielder Craig Gardner.

Press Association Sport understands the 24-year-old is close to agreeing a move to the Black Cats in the wake of the Blues’ relegation from the Barclays Premier League at the end of last season.
