Reid in contention for Sunderland return

Andy Reid could return for Sunderland's Premier League match at Wigan tomorrow.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder has two reserve games under their belt, and will be looking to re-establish himself in manager Steve Bruce's plans.

Record signing Asamoah Gyan could be handed a league debut. The 24-year-old is available for the first time since completing his £13m-plus switch from French club Rennes, although manager Bruce is yet to decide on whether to start him or not.

If he is thrown straight in, he could replace Fraizer Campbell, who will undergo surgery to repair his damaged cruciate ligament next Friday before embarking on a six-month period of rehabilitation.

Nedum Onuoha is available again after being ineligible for the 1-0 win over parent club Manchester City and John Mensah (hamstring) is fit.

George McCartney also has returned to return to contention.

But Michael Turner (ankle) could be sidelined for several weeks and Craig Gordon (broken arm) and David Meyler (knee) remain on the sidelines.
