O’Brien set to recover for Sligo clash

Sporting Fingal will attempt to rediscover their home form when they meet Sligo Rovers at Morton Stadium tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

Friday night’s 1-1 draw at champions Bohemians should have boosted morale ahead of a hectic period of fixtures.

Fingal’s goalscorer at Dalymount, Ger O’Brien, was forced off shortly after with an ankle knock but has recovered and will feature against the Bit O’Red.

Shaun Maher (hip flexor) and Gary O’Neill (groin) remain out, however, the pair are back in training and aiming to be available for Friday’s trip to Bray Wanderers.

Fingal boss Liam Buckley said: “We were delighted to get a draw against Bohemians, considering we conceded a sloppy goal in the first half.

“I thought we played some excellent football in the second half and might have gone on to win it after equalising.

“There hasn’t been much recovery time for this game against Sligo but, as our matches against them are always entertaining affairs, this encounter has all the ingredients to continue that trend.”

Lee McEvilly could make his first start for Sligo tonight after making an impressive substitute appearance in the defeat to Shamrock Rovers last Friday in The Showgrounds.

Gavin Peers is suspended for the clash after being sent off against Rovers, but Gary McCabe returns from his ban.

Matthew Blinkhorn is still sidelined with a back complaint, Mauro Almeida is out for several months, while the club are waiting on defender Jim Lauchlan’s registration to go through.

Elsewhere, winger Dean Marshall has left the club to join Athlone Town.
