Joyous Ross County dump out Celtic
FT: Celtic 0 Ross County 2
Ross County sealed the biggest win in their history and one of the great upsets in Scottish football as they shocked Celtic in today’s Active Nation Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.
Steven Craig scored a wonder-goal and lifelong Hoops fan Martin Scott netted a late second to send County into the final for the first time.
Celtic were woefully out of sorts but did miss more than one sitter when 1-0 down as their miserable season hit a new low.
Celtic were in danger of being caught on the break and Josh Thompson blocked an effort from Barrowman.
The Parkhead club’s frustration was starting to boil over, Keane berating the assistant referee after being flagged offside before Darren O’Dea was booked in a poor challenge in the middle of the field.
Far from sitting back, County continued to attack and Zaluska repelled a vicious 20-yard shot from Brittain with 11 minutes remaining.
It really looked to be their day when McGeady crossed and Samaras’ point-blank finish deflected off the prostrate Miller and against the post.
Keane appealed in vain for what would have been the softest of penalties before leaping to head McGeady’s cross wide under good pressure from Boyd.
Two minutes from time, County sealed the greatest result in their history and one of the biggest ever shocks in the competition.
Lifelong Celtic fan Scott fed Barrowman down the right and continued his run forward to bundle the latter’s cross into the empty net.
Scott’s fellow Hoops fans poured out of Hampden in disgust before Gardyne was replaced by Lawson.
The travelling Highlanders were celebrating long before the final whistle.
