Manchester City are set to be without England defender Joleon Lescott until next year after he underwent surgery on his knee.

The 27-year-old was understood to have gone under the knife to remove floating bone in the joint on the eve of the Barclays Premier League clash against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

He is expected to miss the next four or five weeks, meaning he would be ruled out of at least the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against rivals Manchester United, which takes place on January 6.
