The president of the Irish Football Association, Raymond Kennedy, is seeking compensation for supporters left out of pocket after their World Cup qualifier against Poland was switched from Szczecin to Chorzow.

Fans have already arranged flights and hotels for the crucial match on September 5.

The Polish authorities have blamed a delay in construction work at the original venue for the change.

But Kennedy told the Belfast Telegraph: “I received an email to tell me the match was being moved and I was very surprised.

“We have been over to check out hotels and to meet with the security people and they had no concerns regarding the refurbishment of the stadium being completed on time.

“I plan to speak to people to seek compensation for our fans who have done a lot of work booking their travel to attend the game.”
