As you were for Rovers

Shamrock Rovers will be hoping to build on last week’s league win against Bohemians when they go head-to-head with Derry City at the Brandywell tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

Skipper Shane Robinson (hamstring) and Sean Webb (back) remain sidelined for the Hoops, while Ian Bermingham (calf) may make it back into the squad for the trip north.

“It’s pretty much as we were for last Tuesday’s EA Sports Cup game in Waterford,” said Rovers manager Michael O’Neill. “And while Shane and Sean are out, Ian might be fit for a recall.

“No one picked up any serious knocks on Tuesday night. We changed the team a little for that game and will look at the possibility of bringing one or two players back into the starting 11.

“It’s yet another big game for us, just six days after beating Bohemians. Of course we’re looking forward to it but we are fully aware of how difficult the game will be.

“Derry City were the first team to beat Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght, so obviously we’d like to exact revenge for that. We’ll certainly be looking for all three points.”

For the Candystripes, Ger O'Brien returns to face his old team after recovering from a hamstring injury, while Clive Delaney and Gareth McGlynn have resumed light training this week but will miss out.

Mark McChrystal is suspended for the visit of Rovers after getting sent off last weekend.

City boss Stephen Kenny said: "(I’ve been) quite impressed with Rovers this season, they have a lot of skilful players and are in the top four on merit, so we will have to be at our best to get a result.

“However, we have scored six goals against Drogheda and Bohemians and were unfortunate to not get something from the game in Cork.

“We showed good resilience in that game especially being reduced to 10 men for most of the game.

“It’s a big game for both sides, but we will go and enjoy it and hopefully we will stay in touch with the leaders."
