Alex Ferguson has placed his trust in Carlos Tevez for this afternoon’s Manchester derby despite the striker’s admission that he is almost certainly leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Wayne Rooney is on the bench for Manchester United and Rio Ferdinand misses out altogether, so Tevez was handed a starting slot along with Jonny Evans, Rafael and Dimitar Berbatov.

City boss Mark Hughes has named an unchanged line-up as the Blues look to deny their rivals three of the seven points required to win the title by extending a run of three successive Premier League wins.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Giggs, Park, Berbatov, Tevez.

Subs: Kuszczak, Neville, Rooney, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, O’Shea.

Man City: Given, Richards, Onuoha, Dunne, Bridge, Elano, Ireland, Kompany, De Jong, Robinho, Caicedo.

Subs: Hart, Zabaleta, Bojinov, Petrov, Fernandes, Evans, Berti.

Referee: Chris Foy (Merseyside).
