Derry win sees title race widen
Derry City 3 Bohemians 2
Derry blew the title race wide open tonight as they beat champions Bohemians before a crowd of nearly 4,000 at the Brandywell.
A goalkeeping blunder gifted Bohs the lead on 16 minutes.
Midfielder Paul Keegan let fly form 20 yards and Derry keeper Ger Doherty, possibly unsighted, allowed the ball squirm through his legs.
Derry levelled five minutes into the second half when Thomas Stewart finished Eddie McCallion’s cross.
Mark Farren then put Derry in front within two minutes when outpacing Jason McGuinness to fire past Brian Murphy.
Barry Molloy added a third goal on 75 minutes following a good move with Ciaran Martyn delivering the final pass.
Bohs battled away and Anto Murphy made an immediate impact as a substitute to pull a goal back on 83 minutes. Derry held out however to inflict a second defeat of the season on the champions.
Bohs remain top, two points ahead of Derry, but will be joint level on points with Cork City if the Rebels win at St Patrick's Athletic tomorrow night.
