Rebel Army still looking for first win
Cork City v Bray Wanderers
Bray Wanderers are the visitors to Turner’s Cross tonight as Cork City seek their first win of the 2009 League of Ireland season, kick-off 7.45pm.
Bray boss Eddie Gormley has several injury concerns ahead of the trip south.
Darren Forsyth is ruled out with a rib injury, while midfielder Paddy Kavanagh has ankle ligament problems and will be out for three to four weeks.
Also missing will be central defender Chris Deans due to work commitments, while John Flood (ankle) and Garreth Coughlan (ankle) are doubtful.
Gormley said: "It was a good performance last week by a young team and the senior professionals showed their worth the way they talked the young lads through what was a tough game.
"I was disappointed not to get the three points but I can see the team developing and starting to gel.
“It will be tough in Cork. It will be a big ask for a young side but the players will give 100 per cent, and that’s all you can ask for.”
Pat Sullivan is still out for Cork as he serves the second match of a two-game suspension, while new signing Shane Duggan has a one-match ban to serve carried over from last season.
Stephen O’Donnell’s knee injury is not as bad as was initially suspected, and it is likely that the midfielder will be absent for around three months, rather than the six that were initially feared.
Robert Mezeckis continues his recovery from an ankle injury, and he will also miss a game.
City boss Paul Doolin said: “We have to get it into our heads that no matter how well we play, we cannot concede late goals.
“There is no mystery other than defending properly, and we have to concentrate and eradicate these mistakes.
“Bray Wanderers are a team who have always proved tough opponents for any team in the league. They claimed a draw here last season and I believe they will put it up to us again tonight.”
