Farren goal puts Derry in Cup final

Galway United 0 Derry City 1

Mark Farren scored for the third match running to put cup specialists Derry into the final of the FAI Ford Cup against Bohemians at the RDS on November 23.

Played in a strong wind on a heavy pitch, Farren brought a dour game to life on 64 minutes with the only goal.

Latching onto Gareth McGlynn's pass, Farren raced through to shoot diagonally past Galway keeper Gary Rogers for his sixth goal in five games.

Vinny Faherty's had relegation-threatened Galway's best chance of an equaliser on 79 minutes, but his control let him down as he poked wide after defender Eddie McCallion got a slight touch from John Lester's deep cross.

Derry almost added to their winning margin deep in stoppage time but keeper Rogers saved well from McGlynn.
