Bohs a step closer to league title after beating Drogs

Lithuanian schemer Mindaugas Kalonas scored the opener and made the second goal as Bohemians moved a major step towards a tenth league title, emphatically beating the reigning champions at Dalymount Park last night.

An early Shane Robinson chance apart, Drogheda, as they were in losing an FAI Cup tie at the same venue 12 days ago, were outplayed by a relentless Bohs who stretched their unbeaten league run to 21 games - and their lead at the top of the table to ten points with as many games to play.

It's very much Bohs' title to lose now, no matter what boss Pat Fenlon l say publicly.

Kalonas opened the scoring on 25 minutes as Drogs failed to defend a free-kick. Killian Brennan's delivery was knocked back across goal by Jason Byrne and Kalonas side-footed home from close range.

Guy Bates responded for Drogs to bring a tip-over save from Brian Murphy with a long-range shot.

But Kalonas orchestrated Bohs' second goal on 38 minutes with some sublime skill. Having all too easily beaten his marker, Joe Kendrick, on the right, Kalonas had all the time in the world to pick out Glen Crowe, whose strike knocked Drogs out of the cup, to head to the net for his six league goal of the season.
