City cook up extension

Manchester City have celebrated their return to European combat by landing a one-year extension to their multi-million pound sponsorship deal with travel giants Thomas Cook.

Manchester City have celebrated their return to European combat by landing a one-year extension to their multi-million pound sponsorship deal with travel giants Thomas Cook.

The agreement extends City’s partnership with Thomas Cook to six seasons, the entire duration of their stay at Eastlands.

And given the Blues will learn their UEFA Cup first qualifying round opponents on Monday after gaining entry through the Fair Play League, it could not be a better timed announcement.

“It is fitting that we are extending our agreement at a time when European travel is very much back on the agenda for the club and our supporters,” said executive chairman Garry Cook.

“Both Manchester City and Thomas Cook share similar values and we are very pleased to continue our association with them.”

City’s new home shirt will be unveiled tomorrow, with it being worn for the first time in the annual Thomas Cook Trophy on August 9, with AC Milan confirmed as opponents.

By that time, the Blues hope to have progressed in Europe.

With opposition from Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland among the possibilities for new manager Mark Hughes, City should not be extended too much.

A further qualifying tie must be negotiated in August if they are to make the first round proper along with automatic qualifiers Everton, Tottenham and Portsmouth.
