Update expected on desperate Gretna
Gretna’s administrators Wilson Field have called a press conference for 4.30pm today at the Smith Hotel in Gretna as uncertainty continues to surround the club’s future.
The club could be wound up after Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Celtic if they fail to attract a healthy crowd to Almondvale.
The Borders outfit, who went into administration last week, have had to move their fixtures from Fir Park, where they have been tenants this season, to Livingston’s ground after Motherwell’s stadium was closed for repairs to the pitch.
Only 501 fans turned up for Gretna’s last home game against Dundee United at Fir Park and the Borders club launched an appeal for more supporters to make the trek to West Lothian on Sunday.
Gretna could only fulfil their fixture against Aberdeen at Pittodrie last Saturday after they received a cash advance from the SPL but a poor gate at Almondvale against Celtic could see the plug pulled on the club by the administrators.
A Gretna spokesman told PA Sport today: “Celtic are our only real chance of making money before the split.
“The ticket office has been busy and it looks like we have had a good response but we know that Almondvale is further away than Fir Park and the game is on television.
“I don’t know if we can carry on after the Celtic game to be honest.
“It all depends on the administrators and if they feel that it is worth carrying on.”
