It will be an injury-ravaged UCD squad that travels to the Brandywell for Friday night’s clash with Derry City.

After just one game back from injury, Derek Doyle suffered a broken leg in the Students’ 2-1 defeat away to Sligo.

Doyle joins an injury list that already consists of club captain Tony McDonnell, defenders Ian Bermingham and Alan McNally, midfielders Paul Crowley and Shane Fitzgerald, and striker Paul Byrne.

Due to the lengthy injury list, defender Evan McMillan and midfielder Brian King will both start for the first team on Friday.

UCD manager Pete Mahon said the club’s injury headaches meant he had to make major adjustments to his side.

“We’re putting square pegs into round holes,” said Mahon.

The UCD manager said the club’s main focus was on improving their league position and that above all else he wants the game in Derry to be decided on the night.

“The games coming after this are in our sights. Our priorities are in the league,” said Mahon.

“We’ll do all we can to win tomorrow,” said the UCD manager. “I want a conclusive result. With all the injuries we have, we could do without a replay.”
