Drogheda moved eight points clear with a game in hand as they outplayed chief challengers St. Pat's at United Park to put them firmly on course for the first title in their history.

Both keepers were busy early on with Drogheda's Dan Connor saving well from Glen Fitzpatrick before Barry Ryan saved from Brian Shelley, twice, and then Eamon Zayed at the other end.

A superb goal then brought Drogheda the lead on 28 minutes.

Sami Ristila and Richie Baker set up Shane Robinson, scorer of their winner in Bray last Monday, who cracked a fine shot to the net.

Zayed sealed the win on 73 minutes when getting on the end of Tony Grant's cross to head past Barry Ryan.
