Shamrock Rovers are still without long-term injury victims Paul Shiels and Eric McGill for tonight's clash with Waterford United at Tolka Park (kick-off 8pm).

Derek Pender is out with a knee injury and Tommy Barrett is still recovering from whiplash, so neither will feature.

Danny O'Connor returns after suspension, while both Tadhg Purcell and Ger Rowe are both carrying knocks and are doubtful to start.

"Ger Rowe is still struggling with a rib injury but we're hopeful he can play from the start," said Hoops boss Pat Scully.

"But it's not so good for Tadhg Purcell. He's got a groin problem and we'd reckon that he's about 50-50 at this stage - but he's certainly not ruled out and we are optimistic about his chances."

Stephen Cooling is definitely out for the visitors, while Robert Brosnan and Vinny Sullivan are both doubtful.

"I was really impressed with the lads over the last three games," said Blues manager Gareth Cronin.

"The performance against Sligo was impressive, so was the performance against Drogheda. I know we had the blip in the middle against Cobh (in the league cup) but the lads really did well against Galway and let's face it, three points in the league is more important than the league cup.

"We go to Rovers who are a good side and Pat Scully will have them very organised. But we are organised as well and there is no reason why we can’t get three points again."
